Question 1 evaluation draft script

The narrative of the music video about someone who the artist has previously loved. This is a conventional  narrative for the soft rock/ pop genre and it is quite popular which is why we decided to go with the genre of soft rock. This is because it would be easy for us to create a simple but effective narrative which most people would be able to follow and grasp the concept of the narrative,  without people getting a wrong idea of the main concept. This narrative was also effective because many people can relate to the narrative because it was about relationships and how someone’s missed their partner after they are gone. This addresses the male  audience in which our product was aimed at and it would help sell the song because audience  would again be able to relate to the lyrics and the narrative within the song. indian summer by Steriophonics uses a similar narrative concept in the aspect that both sides of the relationship have good times together, which can be lost, this is seen in Indian summer when both people are on the train, which is a closed in space, and they are having a good time, which our music video also has where we show the couple during the couch scenes, and the kitchen scenes. these scenes from both music videos show a climax which is used to anticlimax the plot twist effectively, which amplifies the narrative within both music videos.
The narrative is unconventional so that the audience blames the artist rather than the person that he loved. This works well as it would address the female  half of the audience in which we were aiming at because if we only had a one sided narrative then our audience would only be small and it wouldn’t be as wide as we could possibly make it, which would sell more copies of the song. This is because one half of the narrative was about losing someone, and the other half was about blaming yourself for losing that person, which not only reflects well in the typical James Blunt song but however works well for deep meaning and contrast to other music videos, where artists like Taylor swift and Rihanna would normally blame someone else for the breakup, like in the Taylor Swift, Blank Space where the whole narrative is about her blaming her partner for just about everything, and breaking his car with a golf club, suggesting that she blames him which is a theme throughout. We have decided to show the two different concepts via the narrative because it addresses a wider audience and also breaks the conventions of the typical genre and works well in the music video that we created. This is because we used amplification of the lead artist being lonely which was used as a really good contrast to when he was in the relationship because it adds meaning and depth towards the narrative, making the audience sympathetic and also helps them relate more towards the narrative. We thought this would be a good ideas as this concept helps address our target audience directly as they would understand the deeper meaning of the music video. we thought that this was a good ideas  For example, we used the fades during editing the video to amplify the fact this person that he loved was in fact gone, during the couch scenes, bedroom scenes and dining room scenes, giving more depth to the story.
Use of location
-       The use of Roseberry topping reflects how lonely the artist via visual representation of his emotions as the openness of the setting was used to reflect how small he felt . This worked well because it acted as a good bridge between the lip sync scenes and the narrative scenes which are not set in the closed in areas. This was again used to amplify the meaning of the narrative and setting as the visuals helped bridge the two time zones where girl was in the flashback scenes and not in the solo scenes with just our artist, which would make the audience want to watch the rest of the story for the narrative which helps build suspense and tension. However we liked adding a spice of tension but we thought it would not fit too well with the genre so we used the fades effectively so not much suspense was built because it did not fit the tune and the beat of the song. We thought this was used effective to keep the audience intrigued with the narrative. this has made the music video as a result
-       The use of the café, house and other closed locations is used to amplify that he is close to someone’s as it is a closed in area. This worked really well in the narrative and as a visual style because it worked as a great contrast against the Roseberry topping scenes. This also worked well as a juxtaposing composition when it came to the fades out we used as it was used to create a closed in space which felt lonely.
Lighting
-       Convectional
Dark setting for the train station scene and at the end of the film would reflect his loneliness
-       Unconventional
In other soft rock videos, it is conventional for the video to have some form of Grayscale cover to amplify loneliness, and within that, the video would use dark and light patches to reflect how he is feeling.
Use of shots
-       Conventions
Use of close up shots within the music video
Use of medium shots to reflect loneliness
-       Unconventional
Use of dead space within the music video to reflect loneliness (often represented by other things)
Misse en scene
